"5 Simple Ways In Which You Can Increase Your Website Conversion "
by Jo Han Mok

Does it really matter how many visitors your website receives?

Let me share an inside joke among top gun Internet Marketers.

H-I-T-S: How Idiots Track Sales

FACT: It's not about raw hits. It's about getting targeted
traffic and converting them from browsers to buyers.

The truth is, if your website does a bad job of that, then it
really doesn't matter how many hits a month you get, does it?

Conversely, if you sell a $49 product and you can convert 15% of your visitors, you'll have a visitor value of $7.35!

Imagine... each visitor being worth $7.35 to you!

If that's the case, then you really don't need that much traffic going to your website. Think about it, if you only get 1000 visitors you'll net a cool $7350 in profits!

And anyone who's been in the business long enough will tell you that with the right advertising, you can easily get 1000 targeted visitors at the drop of a hat.

It's not the numbers. It's about qualified numbers and what you do with them!

Here are 5 simple ways in which you can increase your website conversion rates:

1. Grab 'em By The Throat

The first thing your website needs is a killer headline that
will stop the reader dead in their tracks.

As amazing as it sounds, a killer headline can potentially
increase your response by up to 1700% by tomorrow afternoon. To quote David Ogilvy, 5 times as many people read the headline as they do the body copy.

Here are some tips to help you craft that killer headline better and faster:

  • Craft your headline based on the frustration of your target market. What keeps them awake at night? If you know exactly what makes them 'tick', you can create a headline that goes straight for the jugular.
  • Use quotation marks around your headlines. Quotation marks, as tested by Masters like Ted Nicholas and Gary Halbert among many, actually heighten response rates.
  • When suffering from writer's block, it's usually hard to go wrong with a "how to" type of headline.

2. Make 'Em Curious

Wanna know how curiosity works?

FACT: People simply cannot stand having a secret kept from them.

This psychological law is one of the most powerful driving
forces behind many of the most successful copywriting 'controls' ever.

You can leverage this psychological law to compel your prospect to continue reading your copy. It's like 'sucking' your reader in with a monstrous vaccuum cleaner on steroids.

And if you use this law, it doesn't matter if you subscribe to the " The more you tell the more you sell" or "The more they read the more they need" school of thought.

It'll work out for you both ways.

The key to making this work is this: Your reader must think that there is 'something' that is preventing them from getting the results they should be getting, and the sales letter they're reading is the missing link.

3. Shock 'Em

Would you be interested in something that you already know?

Not very likely.

Controversy sells.

It's cliche but it's true.

If your website copy reveals why your readers are wrong about something they have always taken for granted was right, you'll radically increase your readership, guaranteed!

It's the very same reason why people like tabloids.

Let me give you an example. If I have a headline that says
"Shocking! New Medical Study Reveals That Vitamin C Causes Cancer!"

Would you be interested in reading the copy?

Pick up a copy of the Enquirer, some female magazines and Reader' s Digest.

There's a lot that you can learn from such publications to
increase your website conversion rates.

4. Involve 'Em

People absorb information through different modalities.

There are 3 main types of modalities:

  • Visual
  • Auditory
  • Kinesthetic

Most people learn through mixed modalities although they usually tend to slant towards a particular one.

Visual people like to 'see stuff'. Such people usually have no problems reading website copy and are usually very receptive to hypnotic triggers like "imagine this..." "picture this.." or "see yourself...".

Auditory people like to 'hear' stuff. With all that new website audio streaming technology, you can easily get started with a product like Audio Generator or Sonic Memo and start getting your website to 'talk'.

Video would actually be able to appeal to both the visual and audio groups, and the technology is now available to make this a very viable option.

Kinesthetic people like to have a 'hold' on stuff. They 'grasp'
things easily and usually like to learn 'hands on'. You can ask them questions in your body copy and add "check boxes" which they can check off as they go along and interactive quizzes to capture their attention.

The Bottomline: Offer a 'multimedia' experience. This will
enhance the 'stickiness' of your site.

5. Make 'Em Look

Not many people talk about this, but the 'look' of your website is equally important if you're serious about increasing your conversion rates.

Here are some things to consider:

Fonts - Tahoma for headlines and arial for body copy is
usually a very good combination. Occasionally, courier and
verdana work as well.

Cosmetics - Are you bolding, italicizing, and highlighting?

Tables - Tabling your testimonials and bullets makes your web copy look neater and easier to read.

Colors - The colors you choose for your body copy are also very important. You can be aesthetic and have a 'color scheme' but it SHOULD increase readership. Otherwise it's completely redundant and useless. Usually You'll want to have a dark background, so that the eyes of your prospect are 'centered' on the body copy because of the contrast that's going on.

If it increases readership, do it!

As you can see, these website conversion strategies cost almost next to nothing save for some time. But is that time spent well worth it?

Your increased sales will be the judge.
